Best wet dog food.
Canned dog foods, ranked by composite score. Wet food is higher in moisture and often more palatable - useful for picky eaters, seniors, and dogs with dental issues - but it pays a steep value penalty per 1,000 kcal the rubric reports.
Drawn from the 130 beta scorecards currently in PetScored.
Wet, canned dog food is mostly water, which is exactly why some dogs do better on it: it is more palatable, easier to eat for a dog with dental problems or a poor appetite, and adds moisture for a dog that does not drink much. PetScored does not credit or penalize the format - a canned food is scored on the same five sub-scores as a kibble.
The one consistent cost is value. Paying for water raises the price per 1,000 kcal, so canned dog foods almost always score low on the Value dimension even when their nutrition is fine. This list ranks the canned dog foods in our catalog by composite score and reports that tradeoff rather than hiding it.
