What we collect automatically

When you visit any PetScored page, your browser sends our hosting provider standard request information - pages requested, approximate location (city level, derived from IP), device type, referrer URL, and timestamps. Errors are logged so we can fix broken pages.

Analytics

PetScored uses Google Analytics 4to understand aggregate page traffic, search behavior, and which scorecards readers find useful. GA4 sets a first-party cookie on your browser to count repeat visits. We do not use Google’s advertising features, do not run remarketing, and do not share analytics data with advertisers.

If you want to opt out of GA4 globally, install the official Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. You can also block analytics with any major content blocker; PetScored degrades gracefully when GA4 is blocked.

Email signups

If you give us your email through the PetScored briefing form or any other signup, we use it only for the thing you signed up for: recall alerts when a brand is recalled, score-change notifications, methodology changelog updates, and the occasional editorial. We do not sell email addresses, share them with manufacturers, or use them for advertising.

Email subscriptions are handled by Kit(kit.com, formerly ConvertKit). When you submit the form, your email address is sent to Kit, which stores it and handles the confirmation email and any future broadcasts. Kit’s privacy policy is at kit.com/privacy. You can unsubscribe from any email we send with one click; that removes you from our Kit list immediately.

Affiliate links

Some retail links on PetScored are affiliate links (Chewy, Amazon, Petco). If you click one and buy, PetScored may earn a commission. These links are tagged with rel="nofollow sponsored" and disclosed inline on every product page. Affiliate revenue does not affect any score or ranking. What we do not do

We do not run ad networks. We do not load third-party advertising trackers. We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not need or collect sensitive veterinary records to provide scorecards - do not send private medical details through general contact channels.

Cookies

PetScored sets two kinds of cookies: (1) the Google Analytics first-party cookie described above, and (2) functional storage for things like remembering you signed up for recall alerts so you don’t see the form again. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

Changes to this policy

We update this page when the privacy posture changes - adding an email provider, adding a paid tier, changing analytics, anything. The site footer always shows the site’s last-updated date.
