Our scores are our opinion

Every score, band, and verdict on this site is our opinion, formed by applying a published rubric to facts we gathered from labels and public records. Two people can read the same label and weigh it differently. We tell you which rubric we used, which version of it, where each fact came from, and how confident we are in it, so you can disagree with our reasoning rather than take our word for it.

We separate the two things on purpose. A statement like “this label discloses 30% crude protein” is a fact, and we cite where we read it. A statement like “in our view that is a weak value at this price” is a judgment, and it is ours. We do not present a judgment as a fact about a company, and we do not publish a hard claim about a named brand without a source behind it.

Using this site

By using PetScored you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the site.

Scores and explanations are not veterinary advice, nutrition prescriptions, medical diagnosis, treatment, disease prevention, or a guarantee that a product is appropriate for an individual pet.

Do not use PetScored as the sole basis for a health decision, elimination diet, veterinary therapeutic diet, or urgent care decision.

If you think we got something wrong

Tell us and we will look. Email editor@petscored.com with the page, the specific claim, and what you believe the correct information is. This applies to anyone: a reader, a veterinarian, or a brand that believes we have described its product inaccurately.

What we do with it: we re-check the claim against its source. If a fact is wrong, we correct it and say that we did. If our opinion under the rubric has not changed, we will tell you that plainly, and explain the reasoning rather than quietly leaving it. If the underlying source has changed since we captured it, we recapture and re-date the record. We aim to respond within a few business days.

We would rather hear from you than have you assume the number is final. Correcting a record is the ordinary business of this site, not an admission we resent.

Our data

The rubrics, the scores, the written analysis, and the assembled catalog are ours. We publish machine-readable versions of our scores on purpose, because we would rather be quoted accurately than paraphrased badly.

You may quote individual scores and short passages, including in AI-generated answers, with attribution to PetScored and a link to the page you took them from. You may not copy the catalog in bulk, or redistribute our scores as a dataset or as the basis of a competing product, without our written permission. If you want to do something that does not obviously fit, ask us at editor@petscored.com. We are more permissive than this paragraph sounds.

Sources, changes, and third parties

Product labels, prices, formulations, availability, recall records, and manufacturer disclosures can change. PetScored shows source confidence and capture dates so records are not treated as permanently current.

Public scores may change when source records are updated, conflicts are resolved, or a methodology version changes.

PetScored may link to third-party websites. Those sites control their own pricing, availability, policies, claims, and content.

Liability

PetScored is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss, injury, illness, or harm to a pet or person resulting from use of this site or reliance on its scores. You use the information here at your own risk.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim connected to this site is limited to one hundred US dollars. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we will change the date below. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
